About the Project

A live restoration of a significant Grade II listed building.

Wallsend Hall is a Grade II listed manor house in The Green conservation area. Empty for the past three years since its former hospital use, the entire building is being carefully restored as a long-term project to create a future hotel, spa and wedding venue worthy of its character. The hall is not currently open or operating.

A complete hall — wedding venue, hotel and spa.
The Vision

A complete hall — wedding venue, hotel and spa.

The long-term aim is to bring the entire building back into meaningful use as a future hotel, spa and wedding venue, supported by sensitively restored residential and office space. Each part of the hall has been assessed and organised into clear zones so the restoration can move forward in a structured way. The hall is not currently open or operating — every space is part of the live restoration project.

An important place in the character of The Green.
Why the Project Matters

An important place in the character of The Green.

Wallsend Hall sits at the heart of The Green conservation area and forms an important part of its character. Formerly used as a hospital, the building has stood empty for the past three years and has suffered significant neglect and vandalism. Restoring it is not only about safeguarding a historic structure — it is about reintroducing activity, care and long-term purpose to a site of real local significance in North Tyneside.

Urgent intervention, careful planning.
Working with the Building

Urgent intervention, careful planning.

The unoccupied wings have experienced significant water ingress and interior damage, making urgent intervention essential. Work has begun with immediate priorities such as roof repairs, drainage maintenance, glazing repairs, internal clearance and specialist treatment where required. Externally, an adjoining empty building will be demolished and the grounds re-landscaped to give the hall the setting it deserves, with all plans developed to meet planning, conservation and building control requirements.

Concept Site Plan

The whole site, reimagined as one connected destination.

The illustrative site plan shows how the restored hall, its grounds and the surrounding parcels are envisaged to work together — combining the manor house with new landscaped gardens, a generous south-facing terrace, an outdoor spa area and considered parking provision, all framed by mature planting along The Green.

A Future in Phases

Restoration and renewal, delivered responsibly.

Delivering the project in stages allows restoration and development work to proceed responsibly. It ensures that the most urgent issues are addressed first, while laying the groundwork for each future use within the hall. This phased approach supports both conservation and long-term viability.
